Hi, we have a 3 node hyper-v cluster windows server 2012 R2. They have shared iscsi disks. When I want to create a checkpoint, I get the following:

Error (12700)
VMM cannot complete the host operation on the ams1svw011.wessanen.local server because of the error: Checkpoint operation for 'AMS1SAW029' failed. (Virtual machine ID 8A857DA6-6534-4631-8315-CD14488F79CC)

'AMS1SAW029' cannot create the storage required for the checkpoint using disk C:\ClusterStorage\Volume7\AMS1SAW029_disk_1.vhdx: General access denied error (0x80070005). (Virtual machine ID 8A857DA6-6534-4631-8315-CD14488F79CC)
Unknown error (0x8001)

Recommended Action
Resolve the host issue and then try the operation again.

Network Name Resource Availability - failover cluster error 1196 on Hyper-V 2012 R2 nodes

Hello,

We're getting this error in our even logs of our four node failover cluster, we tried deleting Host A record in DNS management, that did nothing.

Failover cluster event: 1196

"Cluster network name resource 'CAUCrgt8' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server."

And this resource http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773529%28v=WS.10%29.aspx did not help in solving this.

Do you guys have any other suggestions we could try to resolve this error?

Necessary permissions to create a cluster

Hi

I prepare to create a cluster with 2 servers (A and B), i configures "Private" and "Public" network. I choose a name for my cluster (Ex.: clusterA)

I view in this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn505754.aspx#BKMK_ClusPrereq , my account must have a permissions:

- Local Admin "ServerA", Local Admin "ServerB" and the user who creates the cluster has theCreate Computer objects permission to the OU or the container where the servers that will form the cluster reside.

My question: What is neccessary permission to create a cluster name (ClusterA) in a DNS (Alias) ?

Thanks

Cant see shared disk clicking on Role in fail over cluster

I created a Fail over cluster and have added the quorum and shared disk to it. Now using power shell i created role and moved the cluster and resources to the role. Below is the command i used

PowerShell.exe Move-ClusterResource -Cluster Clustertest -Group DemoRole -Name `Cluster IP Address`

Now when i click on role i can see the cluster, logical ip address and Storage as Cluster Disk 2 which is quorum, But i amnot able to see the Cluster Disk 1 which is my shared disk.

Please see that its a ISCSI disk.

Persistent Route on a virtual IP

Hi,

It may be a longshot but is it possible to have a persistent route on a virtual IP address (NLB cluster IP)?

The reason is that I need to add a persistent route to a particular subnet for my two exchange CAS servers. I am able to add the routes for the IPs of each CAS server but need it for the NLB cluster IP as the DNS record for my CAS array points to the NLB IP. The client on the particular subnet can ping the individual CAS server IPs but not the NLB IP.

Unable to add Node to cluster - Windows Server 2012

We are having troubles trying to add a node to a cluster where there is an AlwaysOn Availability Group role, all systems are using Windows Server 2012. This node was previously working without problems, but was evicted during an operation, and we are trying again to add this node to the claster.

The cluster is working OK, because we have other avaibility groups working in the same cluster. Both cluster and node are in the same network and domain.

The cluster validation was completed without  errors. This is the report generated after the unsuccessfull adding process:

Any hint about how to resolve this problem would be very appreciated.

Hyper-v Live Migration not completing when using VM with large RAM

$

hi,

i have a two node server 2012 R2 cluster hyper-v which uses 100GB CSV, and 128GB RAM across 2 physical CPU's (approx 7.1GB used when the VM is not booted), and 1 VM running windows 7 which has 64GB RAM assigned, the VHD size is around 21GB and the BIN file is 64GB (by the way do we have to have that, can we get rid of the BIN file?).

NUMA is enabled on both servers, when I attempt to live migrate i get event 1155 in the cluster events, the LM starts and gets into 60 something % but then fails. the event details are "The pending move for the role 'New Virtual Machine' did not complete."

however, when i lower the amount of RAM assigned to the VM to around 56GB (56+7 = 63GB) the LM seems to work, any amount of RAM below this allows LM to succeed, but it seems if the total used RAM from the physical server (including that used for the VMs) is 64GB or above, the LM fails.... coincidence since the server has 64GB per CPU.....

why would this be?

many thanks

Steve

CAS Server not Migrating

Hope ur all doing well, we have 2 physical Servers HV1 and HV2, both servers are part of VMs cluster, each server hosts a CAS and an mbx HA VM i.e HV1 hosts CAS1, CAS2, and HV2 hosts MBX1 and MBX2. Few days ago CAS1 Server crashed, we created a new VM CAS3 from Fail-over Cluster Manager Console>> Services and applications, new vm created in the CSV storage with the same settings (Processors, RAM, NICs) as of crashed CAS1 server, and recovered it with setup /m:RecoverServer..all goes well Server recovered successfully and added back to the CAS WNLB successfully and working all fine, just one PROBLEM, CAS3 vm is unable to Live migrate, quick migrate or even unable to move on to the other host Server. When we live migrate it, it completes transfer 100% but comes back onto the original Host again with the following error in Cluster Events.

Even ID: 1205

"The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'CAS3' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application."

Please suggest how can I dig into this error where can I start troubleshooting with what resources might be missing? In Failover Cluster Manager all the Resources are Green.

Hello,

I am trying to configure windows Cluster in server 2012 for SQL server Always availability group.in my network domain controller is running on 10.1.1.0/24.Due to some reason i cannot use class 10.1.1.0/24 IPs for cluster and SQL Listener

I have assigned class A 10.1.1.0/24 range Ip and class  C 192.168.1.0/24 range Ip on single LAN card of my sql servers

Server1 10.1.1.10/24 and 192.168.1.10/24

Server2 10.1.1.11/24 and 192.168.1.11/24

When i try to create cluster its only pick class A 10.1.1.0/24 network not class C network 192.168.1.0/24 network. and If i create cluster with 10.1.1.0/24 then how i can able to addclass C network 192.168.1.0/24 in cluster

Please help me on this issue.Thank you in advance

Upgrading Hyper-V Server 2008R2 Cluster to 2012R2

$

I have a Hyper-V Server 2008R2 (free 'core' version) cluster that I would like to upgrade to Hyper-V Server 2012R2 (same 'core' version).  I foundthis document that seems to outline the process, however I have the following questions...

Any reason this process won't work on the "core" version of Hyper-V.  i.e. "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008R2".  I currently have a 2-node 2008R2 HA cluster with "core" servers and am looking to migrate that cluster to the "core" version of 2012R2.

Is there no way to do this "in place", meaning without a dedicated target server?  It seems like the process assumes you just have extra servers sitting around that can act as targets.  I suppose I could shuffle VMs off one cluster node, evict that node from my current cluster, rebuild it with 2012R2 core, add it to a new cluster as the only node and carry on with the process outlined here?  Once all VMs are on the new "cluster" of one 2012R2 node, I would destroy the original cluster, rebuild those machines with 2012R2 and add them as nodes to the new cluster?

Any reason the "Failover Cluster Manager" tool, version 6.1, I've been using to manage my 2008R2 environment won't work to do the migration?  Or are there new 2012 tools I need to have installed on my workstation.  Remember, since this is the "core" version I can't manage anything from the server.

Thanks,

Todd

File Share Witness Resouces Errors in a SQL 2012 Alwayson Availability Group Environment

$

Hi I am getting the following error in WFC Manager and in my system event log:

Event ID1564:

File share witness resource 'File Share Witness' failed to arbitrate for the file share '\\SQL2012ClusterWitnessPath'. Please ensure that file share '\\SQL2012ClusterWitnessPath' exists and is accessible by the cluster.

Event ID 1069:

Cluster resource 'File Share Witness' of type 'File Share Witness' in clustered role 'Cluster Group' failed.

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Event ID 1205:

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

These errors showed up every hour on the hour and then suddenly stopped.  I tried looking at the cluster.log file but there wasn't anything recorded there.  The file share witness shows to be online and my AG did not fail over to another node.  The cluster has read and write permissions to the share.  I did not find any error messages about the witness share on the remote server.

I am wondering what caused these series of events to occur?

Thanks.

hyper-v cvluster live migration takes a long offline time

Hi

We have a Windows 2008 R2 cluster with hyper-V instances running on it.

It has two nodes and if I make a live migration from node 1 to node 2 it works fine, only takes the VM offline  for 1 second or so. But if I make a live migration from node 2 to node 1 it takes much longer, in some tests it took 20 seconds, most of the cases it took 10 secons, but everytime much more than doing it forom node 1 to node 2

What could be wrong?

Thank you very much.

best regards.

David.
