AD CS in failover cluster

$

Hello!

I want to deploy AD CS in a failover cluster based on Windows Server 2012 R2.

All actions are performed following this manual -

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc742450(v=ws.10).aspx

On both nodes successfully installed AD CS roles and Failover clustering features.

The problem is that in mmc Failover Cluster Management in  Generic Service I can't find Active Directory Certificate Services.

How can I install AD CS in Windows Server 2012 R2 failover cluster?

Thank's!

Network Name Resource Availability - failover cluster error 1196 on Hyper-V 2012 R2 nodes

Hello,

We're getting this error in our even logs of our four node failover cluster, we tried deleting Host A record in DNS management, that did nothing.

Failover cluster event: 1196

"Cluster network name resource 'CAUCrgt8' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server."

And this resource http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773529%28v=WS.10%29.aspx did not help in solving this.

Do you guys have any other suggestions we could try to resolve this error?

Windows server 2012 Datacenter Hyper-V Cluster + mixing HP Proliant DL380 G7 and G8

I've heard that with Windows server 2012, the requirement for similar hardware for the cluster nodes is not as strict as it was before. I have a 3-node Windows 2012 datacenter Hyper-V cluster, all 3 servers are HP DL380 G7. I'm thinking of adding one more node(a HP DL380 G8) into the cluster but I'm not sure how well it will work with the other 3 servers. Has anyone done something similar to what I want to do? Thanks.

export-csv won't work with get-cluster filtering

$clustername = get-clustergroup ; foreach ($cn in $clustername) { Get-ClusterResource | where-object {$_.OwnerGroup.name -eq $cn} | export-csv -path s:\duct\traces\cat.txt}

the above powershell command creates a file with 0 data.

if I remove the "-path s:\duct\traces\cat.txt" and allow the powershell to prompt me for the file name (s:\duck\traces\cat.txt) I will get the file with data.

as i'm starting to play with powershell and it's capability i'm at a loss what would cause the *query*. any insight?

Live Migration of Virtual Machines failing - 2012 R2 Cluster

For several months I have had a Server 2012 R2 Failover Cluster which has been successfully live migrating virtual machines between the nodes. This past week I've noticed they are no longer migrating successfully. Unfortunately, the event logs are not being very helpful.

On the Destination node I get two entries in the event log:

Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering

Event ID: 1069

Cluster resource 'Virtual Machine XYZ' of type 'Virtual Machine' in clustered role 'XYZ' failed.

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Source: Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering

Event ID: 1205

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered role 'XYZ' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered role.

On the Source node, I get one event log entry:

Source: Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-High-Availability

Event ID: 21502

Live migration of 'Virtual Machine XYZ' failed.

Virtual machine migration operation for 'XYZ' failed at migration destination 'Node-A'. (Virtual machine ID 2B038DBB-6BC7-4225-B5F3-FBC8324E302C)

I am not seeing any other entries in the System Event Log occurring at the same time on either the source or destination nodes.  The Cluster Validation Wizard confirms the cluster is configured correctly and functioning, although I did skip the CSV tests as I'll need to schedule a maintenance time before knocking the VMs offline.

The cluster consists of 4 nodes all running Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition.  All of the virtual machines are configured to allow migration to processors of different versions as 2 nodes are running a newer generation of Intel processors than the 2 older nodes.  All of the VMs are configured to use Dynamic Memory.  Both CSVs (the VM storage volume and the Disk Witness volume) are connected via iSCSI.

Server 2008 R2 Failover cluster network configuration

Hi

We have a customer with a Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V failover cluster. They have 2 cluster networks, "Cluster Network 1" and "Cluster Network 2".

"Cluster Network 1": NIC team on 172.16.1.0/24 for private cluster network communication
"Cluster Network 2": NIC team on 192.168.1.0/24 for production network communication

I can see that "Cluster Network 1" is configured to "Allow cluster network communication on this network" and "Allow clients to connect through this network".
If "Cluster Network 1" is ONLY for communication between the to cluster nodes then I assume the selection in "Allow clients to connect through this network" should be removed?

SQL CLUSTER NAME REMAIN IN A FAILED STATE

$

We have the following configuration in our enterprise;

- Two physical servers ( both running windows server 2008 R2)

- The physical servers have been clustered (CLUSTER1).

- Six Virtual Machines ( two for each tier of our SharePoint 2010 installation)

- Two web front ends, two application servers, two database servers.

- The two database servers (running windows server 2008 R2) have been clustered (SQLCLUSTER2) and point to a SAN.

After an unexpected power failure, the SQLCLUSTER2 has refused to come online. The IP Address comes "Online" when turned on manually. The disks also come online when turned on manually using "Bring this resource online". But once the Cluster name is attempted to be brought online all other resources turn into "failed" state and the entire SharePoint portal becomes unavailable. See image below

SQL CLUSTER

Note: We have recently had a problem with one of our Domain Controller and had to be decommissioned one of the two(2) DC's. My investigation reveals that the decommissioned DC was used to create the Cluster Name Object (CNO) SQLCLUSTER2.

I have been battling to restore the cluster to normalcy for over a week now. But periodically (after some hours) all the resources turn to "failed" state and down goes our SharePoint portal.

Please any assistance anyone can offer to help resolve this issue would be highly welcomed.

NLB - Duplicate packets

Hi All,

I am running Server 2012 R2 and I have configured NLB between two of my webservers.

When I ping the NLB IP address from a Mac or Linux box I notice that I get duplicate packets. I send 10 packets and get 20 returns.  Is this normal?  I would have thought the NLB would send the ping to one address to answer not both.

10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, +9 duplicates, 0.0% packet lossround-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.222/1.353/10.805/3.238 ms

Thanks.

Clustering 2 node Windows 2012 R2 for Hyper V

$

Hello Team,

Please see my scenario and suggest me how to accomplish this;

*I have 2 servers running windows 2012 r2 with latest patch updates

*Two servers doesn't share a SAN and has local disks on them

*Installed Hyper V role and created VMs

*The VMs are running on these 2 hosts.

*Now, we need to create a Fail-Over clustering with these 2 nodes for Hyper V

*I am able to create the Fail-over clustering but unable to create a cluster share/smb share for the VMs

*Both the hosts are identical with respect to the hardware and software configurations

* Both the servers has a disk with 1 TB of size for storing the VMs

* I am unable to create a CSV or SMB share, such that the 2 nodes can see this as a shared storage space

I am new to Hyper V clustering and followed several links but of no luck, host clustering is pretty simple in VMWare with a few right and left clicks on the mouse (no offense please).

I am unable to share the local storage to the 2 node cluster as I mentioned there is no SAN.

Can anybody help me to get the Hyper V clustering with the locally attached disks.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,

Kannan

Witness Disk online pending for long time server 2012 R2

Hi

I have a two node cluster, which uses shared storage provided by StarWind (a virtual SAN which runs on the local storage of the servers) there is one CSV and one Witness disk. Everything in the cluster works correctly except under the scenario when the witness disk owner is suddenly reset with no clean shutdown, after a short period the CSV will switch over to the remaining node, but the witness disk seems to get stuck in the Online Pending state for a long time, this causes any virtual machines running on top of the server which is not reset to crash, stating that the virtual machines configuration can be found (even though the CSV has switched over already without issue). I have read about the check disk parameter to change it from 0 to 4 which I have done but this hasn’t made any difference, I have also ensured that the folder and sub-files in the witness disk are not read-only.

The switch over for the witness disk is extremely slow and causes the virtual machines to crash, is there anything else I can look at? All the settings for the cluster are configured in their default states such as the resource policies.

also there were no warnings or failures on my cluster validation, everything was passed perfectly.

Thanks

Steve

Cluster IP address in Failed status

Windows 2012 2-node failover cluster for Hyper-V. 2 LANs in place, one for iSCSI communication. In failover cluster manager, when viewing the summary page cluster core resources, I have my cluster name listed, with two IP addresses under it, 192.168.2.x for LAN, and 10.168.2.x for iSCSI. The second IP is in a "Failed" status.

Everything works fine, but I'm wondering if this is a problem. In the Networks section, I have two cluster networks, the LAN network is enabled for cluster use, and the iSCSI network is disabled for cluster use. Here, both networks show as UP. In the properties of network 2, "Do not allow cluster network communication" is selected. The iSCSI network contains two NICS, each with an IP on the iSCSI subnet. MPIO is handeled by the initiator, with Dell's HIT kit layered on top (EqualLogic SAN).

Only problem is, when selecting Move Cluster Resources -> Best Possible Node, I get error 1223, "Cluster IP address resource 'Cluster IP Address 10.168.2.58' cannot be brought online because the cluster network 'Cluster Network 2' is not configured to allow client access. Please use the Failover Cluster Manager snap-in to check the configured properties of the cluster network."

No movement of cluster resources occur.

Does this indicate a problem, or is this typical of my setup?

DTC not binding with the domain controller

Hey guys,

I am setting up a 2008 cluster and i am getting this error when i install the DTC service and try to start it

Cluster network name resource 'DTC_Name' failed to create its associated computer object in domain 'domain.com' for the following reason: Unable to obtain the Primary Cluster Name Identity token.

The text for the associated error code is: An attempt has been made to operate on an impersonation token by a thread that is not currently impersonating a client.

Please work with your domain administrator to ensure that:
- The cluster identity 'DTC_Name$' can create computer objects. By default all computer objects are created in the 'Computers' container; consult the domain administrator if this location has been changed.
- The quota for computer objects has not been reached.
- If there is an existing computer object, verify the Cluster Identity ''DTC_Name$' has 'Full Control' permission to that computer object using the Active Directory Users and Computers tool.

Event ID 1194

Anybody have any advice?

Thanks!

The question is simple: is Microsft network load balancer in windows server 2012 able to balance web sockets request such as http requests?

When I failover the SQL Cluster I get this,

Live Migrate Fails Event ID 1069 and 1205. All resources online.

We have a cluster built on 2012 r2.  after adding the second node Live migration did not work until I changed the security from CredSSP to Kerberos (I suspected I had to do this because our AD is still operational level 2003).  Live Migration was then working fine until I added a third node.  Now it gets to 70% and fails with errors 1069 and 1205.  I have verified that all resources are online.  However, when  i browse to C:\clusterstorage\Volume2  on one node (the current CSV and VMs Owner) i see all the VMs.  On the other two nodes I do not see all the VMs and the icon looks like a folder, not a shortcut to a volume.  Cluster Validation Passes, but during production I am not including the 'Storage' tests. Looking for any suggestions.

WFC with an existing production SQL Server instance

I have an existing SQL Server (2012) in my environment for Sharepoint 2013. I want to cluster it now. In order to configure WFC, do I need to setup a new server first, configure WFC, and then add the existing SQL Server to the cluster? First attempt in doing this, do any direction is appreciated.

Storage Migration ONLY copies source disk (instead of move)

$

If I use Move/VM Storage in Cluster Manager, I would expect the storage to be MOVED

But instead it just gets copied to the destination (leaving the source untouched)

Surely that is at least misleading.

How to make move behaving as move?

Seb
