Hyper-V Replica Broker resource not coming online

I was trying to create a cluster broker on a cluster using WMI. I am creating the required IPv4, IPv6 network resources and adding them as a dependency on the Hyper-V replica broker resource. When trying to bring the broker online, the Hyper-V Replica Broker resource is failing to come online with the below errors.

INFO  [NM] Received request from client address HRM-08-007.

ERR   [RES] Virtual Machine Replication Broker <Hyper-V Replica Broker C10022014XXXX>: 'Hyper-V Replica Broker C10022014XXXX' failed to start the network listener on destination node 'MachineName': No such host is known. (0x80072AF9). Please look at the event log on destination node for more details.

WARN  [RES] Virtual Machine Replication Broker <Hyper-V Replica Broker C10022014XXXX>: 'Hyper-V Replica Broker C10022014XXXX' failed to start the network listener for the Hyper-V Replica Broker resource: Unspecified error (0x80004005).

The node 'MachineName' does exist.

What might be the issue? How to debug this.

Scale out File Storage Server CSV's going into re-directed mode for no apparanty reason. ! Event ID 5120

Hi, I've been getting random "CSV paused going into redirected Mode" Events on my SOFS cluster. reason is C000000e and C00000C4,  I initially though this was because of DPM, but there are no backups occurring during this events.

This is a two node cluster running 2012R2, my backend Storage is EMC SAN. so I am creating the CSV volumes from the SAN storage, and taking advantage of CSV caching and SMB3.0, as our EMC cannot provide SMB3.0 shares via the celerra.

Even though I am getting these cluster events, I am not seeing the CSV's getting paused in the cluster manager and no VM's seemed to be getting affected by this issue, I can only assume the issue is happening for milliseconds.

its still worrying though.

The Servers are BL460c G7, with FlexFabric 553 cards, fully patched firmware and drivers. the servers are using EMC powerpath, the correct supported version for 2012R2, and this shows no issues.

The OS is also fully patched on both nodes. I have turned of AV (which is endpoint protection).

we have an enterprise agreement so I am thinking of opening a support case for this issue.

but I thought I would share and see if anyone else has any other suggestions.

Cluster with 2 hosts 2012 R2

Scheduled CAU fails with:

Windows Server Failover Cluster Tahniques

We have Two Servers Ready to be Deploy the SQL 2012; Need to make Cluster of These two nodes.

We have Servers with 900 GB Unallocated local Disk Space in each server.

We Don't have any kind of Shared Storage.

My Questions are:

- how to make Qourum?

- How to Use these Two Disks on each server so that Data will be Replicated?

- After Making the Cluster, how to Install the SQL server?

Failover Cluster Validation Report Error with IBM USB Remote NDIS Network device

We are setting up Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster on IBM X3850 X5 and get errors in the Failover cluster Validation Report due to the IBM USB Remote NDIS Network Device is using APIPA adresses and both servers are using same APIPA-adresse.

How should I configure the Server and OS for the Failover cluster to be MS approved?

IBM don't recommend that i disable the Network device, but it is a possible solution!?!

msmq private queue is not visible on windows 2008 r2

Hello

MSMQ privte queue are disappeared from the console. when i try to create a new queue with same name it says that entry is already there.

I am able to see the msmq status on the event viewer ,we use vcs cluster

is it some permission issue and or it configuration mismatch on the vcs cluster

LIve Migration stalls when one of the link goes down

Hi,

I am testing our 10G Network card which is RDMA capable. Configured Fail over clustering, both Node1 and Node2 has 10G cards each with two ports.

I have started live migration from Node1 to Node2, I see the traffic is going on both the interface, Multichannel is enabled.

When Live migration is going on I removed the cable from port 0 of Destination Node. the live migration stalls. IS THIS AN EXPECTED BEHAVIOR?

I have set Performance options to SMB only.

Hyper-V Cluser New Node Validation Network Test Failure

I have a single node Hyper-V cluster in which I am trying to add a second node.  Both servers are identical hardware and are both installed with Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.

When running the tests to validate the cluster configuration to add a new node, I receive the following errors preventing me from adding the new node. This error is received in the "Validate Cluster Network Configuration" section of the tests.

An error occurred while executing the test.
There was an error initializing
the network tests.

There was an error creating the server side agent
(CPrepSrv).

Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to
interface type 'MS.Internal.ServerClusters.Validation.IClusterNetwork2'. This
operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the
interface with IID '{2931C32C-F731-4C56-9FEB-3D5F1C5E72BF}' failed due to the
following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002
(E_NOINTERFACE)).

Any advice on what to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to repair the active directory objet for 'cluster name' with Windows server 2012 R2

Hi, I've a problem with a Windows Server Datacenter 2012 R2 cluster (4 Node), I can't repair the Cluster name. The Error Code is the following 0x800713b8 "The Cluster request is not valid for this object" and I have some errors like that:

Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' encountered an error enabling the network name on this node. The reason for the failure was: 
 'Unable to obtain a logon token'.

 The error code was '-1073741717'. 

 You may take the network name resource offline and online again to retry.

The CNO is in the  Computers container and has the permissions to himself to Change password and the object is not protected.My domain and forest level are 2003, and I have a Windows server 2012 (not R2) failover cluster who is working prefectly! (I have read this article: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2012/09/25/cno-blog-series-increasing-awareness-around-the-cluster-name-object-cno.aspx )

The Cluster Validation is OK (with some warnings about storage and Integartion service version), and  I know the kb2838043 isn't for 2012R2, so I really dunno what to do now.

In windows2012, IIS is not able to configure in Microsoft Failover Cluster

Hello All

I configured IIS under Microsoft Failover Cluster with the help of below link. The setup is working successful. I configured this on Windows2008.

I verified below as test cases.

1.) I kill PID of W3SVC , the failover executed.

2.) I stopped the Default Web Site, the failover executed.

3.) I stopped the Default Application Pool, the failover executed.

4.) I stopped the other Application Pools, the failover executed(after changing the script under above mentioned link).

PLEASE NOTE: I used the following links to configure the setup on Windows2008 and Windows2012

But, when I create the same environment under Windows2012, see what happen below.

Bug in the copy cluster roles wizard - CSV reparse points cannot have names with spaces

Hi All,

I have identified a bug in the copy cluster roles wizard in 2012 R2, which is preventing me from migrating my clusters from 2008 R2 & 2012 to 2012 R2.

The bug surfaces when you attempt to copy a VM role from a 2008 R2 or 2012 cluster that has a CSV reparse point name that contains spaces as follows:

The role appears to copy across fine, but once you've migrated the CSV and brought it online followed by starting the VM, the VM configuration resource promptly fails along with the VM.

The issue can be spotted inside the copy cluster roles wizard, where it presents itself by removing all text after the first space in the name to read "C:\ClusterStorage\CSV" rather than "C:\ClusterStorage\CSV Test Disk 3" as follows:

The bug only appears for VMs on CSVs with a reparse point name containing spaces - all other scenarios succeed.

After searching through the registry on the new cluster, you can clearly see that the VM role hasn't been correctly copied.

It shows a value called SharedVolumeMappings with the data C:\ClusterStorage\CSV|<guid>|<integer>

Whereas it should show the data C:\ClusterStorage\CSV Test Disk 3|<guid>|<integer>

If you modify the data in the SharedVolumeMappings value in both0.Cluster\Resources\<VM guid> and Cluster\Resources\<VM guid> keys, the VM will start and work correctly.

The problem for me is that I have many VMs on many different CSVs all with spaces in the names of the reparse point! Its not feasible for me to go through the registry for every copied VM on every node of the new cluster, as this would take a very long time and would be prone to errors that could cause further problems.

Can anyone provide any help on this? A hotfix for the issue would be great, if anyone from Microsoft is reading :-)

My deadline to get the VMs migrated to the new cluster is the 21st February, so I would really like to have a solution to the problem before then if at all possible.

I am setting up our first Hyper-V cluster.  I have 10 Hyper-V host.  Should I put all of these nodes into one cluster or into more smaller cluster?   Also is it better to use Cluster Shared Volumes with my SAN or not?

Problems with Microsoft DSM QFE Number not the same.

All the numbers are the same except for the Microsoft DSM  QFE Number.  On four servers it is 17514 and on the others it is 21680.  How can I update these?

Failed to connect to the quorum resource - Cluster migration wizard

Hi,

following scenario - Migrating resources from Win2003 Cluster to Win2008 Cluster using Cluster Migration Wizard. Migrators user account added to Administrators group on both Win2003 nodes. Did the same on 5 clusters before with no issues. On last one we are getting following error:

"Failed to connect to the quorum resource"

No matter if we try to connect to Cluster name or Cluster node names.

Unable to find such an error message on the web.

Any Idea?

High availability for file server and exchange with 2 physical servers

Dear Experts,

I have 2 physical server with local disks only. I want to setup below on same with high availability, please advise best prossible options. We will be using windows 2012 R2 Server..

1. Domain controller

2. Exchange 2013

As of now I am thinking of setting up below:

1. Install Hyper-v on both and create 3 VM on each as

-On Host A- 1 VM for DC, 1 VM for File server with DFS namespace and replication for file server HA and 1 VM for Exchange 2013 with CAS/MBX with DAG and DNS RR for Exchange HA

-On Host B - 1 VM for ADC, 1 VM for File server DFS member for above and 1 VM for Exchange 2013 CAS/MBX with DAG member

I have read on internet about new features called scale out file server (SoFS) in Windows 2012 Server but not sure that will be preferred for file sharing.

Any advise will be highly appreciated..

moving active node resources to the inactive node

We have a 2 node , majority disk, Windows 2008R2 failover cluster.   The active node is currently showing all resources and services on node A.   Node B is the inactive node.    we are about to perform a DataCenter shutdown test.   Our application manager would like us to make Node B inactive during the DataCenter Shutdown test but he believes we can make Node B active if we do it this way:

1.  power down Node B (inactive node)

2. power down Node A (active node)

3. power up Node A (active node)

4. power up Node B (inactive node)

By doing this way, he believes Node B will automatically become the Active node.

I do not believe this is correct.   I believe it has to failover to get Node B active.  So, my proposal is:

1.  power down Node A (active node)  This should cause a failover of resources and services to Node B

2. Once all resources and services are on Node B, power Node B down.   Now, both nodes are powered down and Node B is holding the cluster resources and services and is the Active node.

3.  Power up Node B (now the new Active node)

4. Power up Node A ( the new inactive node)

Which is correct?
