Im setting up a failover cluster on vm;s as a test and I have 2 NICs setup 1 for Public and 1 for private but when I start the failover install it only picks up one network (subnet). Why?

Server 2012 R2 cluster error "An item with the same key has already been added"

$

Using the Configure Role option in Failover Cluster Manager on Server 2012 R2.  After selecting Virtual machines from the list, upon enumeration I receive the following error:

"An item with the same key has already been added"

I've looked at other solutions to this issue but they are unrelated.  Some mention firewall configuration and others network card guid on VM.  I can create a blank VM (no operating system and no NIC) with the same results.

This error appears even if there isn't a non-highly available VM to be converted to highly available (which i've run in the past and it will just enumerate nothing).

Tied to this error is the fact that when I do try to create a highly available virtual machine, the wizard completes but the virtual machine is created as non-highly available with no error given.  This is when I tried the Configure Role option and get the error listed above (assuming both are related to each other somehow).

Custer dependency in Domain

Hi,

I have come across a confusing question

One of our customer environment is having only one Windows 2008 Domain Controller in entrire FOrest and Domain. We know that its design problem which need to be corrected on priority. But i got struct in answering some of the questions as

1) If i am running Windows 2008 Failover Cluster for SQL DB, what is the level of dependency on my Domain/Domain Controller.

2) If Single Domain Controller which is there in environment is failed due to hardware or OS problem then Failover Cluster Server will get impacted immediately or it will run some time? If it run some time and fail later then what is the stage it will get failed actually.

Pls suggest if you know any of these points, its good discussion point as well.

Environment

Cluster Nodes = two

Cluster Nodes OS = Windows 2012

Application = IIS

Query

I configured the cluster. I want to cluster IIS as failover cluster. For this I am using the following article. As per the direction of the below article I replaced both (SITE_NAME = "MyWebSite" andAPP_POOL_NAME = "DefaultAppPool") . Now when I try to online the generic script resource it failed.

Please Note: When I used the same script mentioned in the above link with default web site, it works fine.

Any comment will be appreciated. Thanks. Zahid Haseeb.

Cluster Disk keeps going offline. Service or application failed

We currently have 2 servers, both housing 3 VMs (6 nodes total).  2 Disk are used to house these VM's.  Cluster Disk 1 keeps going offline, which kicks 2 of our servers offline until we migrate the disk to another node (puts it into redirected mode).  We then have to restart the server to re-establish to connection to the cluster disk.  Digging around in event viewer, I saw the following:

Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 2' in clustered service or application 'b0a21897-e59b-46c9-a495-273dc5ad2aea' failed.

Cluster physical disk resource 'Cluster Disk 2' cannot be brought online because the associated disk could not be found. The expected signature of the disk was '{92eb716c-6878-42ad-b7de-f3879d72e232}'. If the disk was replaced or restored, in the Failover Cluster Manager snap-in, you can use the Repair function (in the properties sheet for the disk) to repair the new or restored disk. If the disk will not be replaced, delete the associated disk resource.

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'b0a21897-e59b-46c9-a495-273dc5ad2aea' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

I ran the cluster validation test and all seemed to check out except for Cluster Disk 1 and the two servers associated with this server, as shown below:

Validating cluster resource Cluster Disk 2.

This resource is marked with a state of 'Offline'. The functionality that this resource provides is not available while it is in the offline state. The resource may be put in this state by an administrator or program. It may also be a newly created resource which has not been put in the online state or the resource may be dependent on a resource that is not online. Resources can be brought online by choosing the 'Bring this resource online' action in Failover Cluster Manager.

This resource is marked with a state of 'Failed' instead of 'Online'. This failed state indicates that the resource had a problem either coming online or had a failure while it was online. The event logs and cluster logs may have information that is helpful in identifying the cause of the failure.

All disks are housed on our SAN.  Any idea where I can start troubleshooting further?  Changing the signature of the disk or finding out which application is failing?  All help is greatly appreciated.

Introducing Server 2012 R2 into a Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V failover-cluster

Hello,

I have a couple Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Host clusters with many VM's running on them. Is there a way I can introduce a Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host server into each cluster, migrate the VM's to the Server 2012 R2 system and then be able to live migrate the VM's to another Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host in another cluster? Thanks

Cluster network name resource error 1196

$

I have a two-node Hyper-V 2012 Core Server cluster. Initially, the cluster was working fine and I was able to do live migrations with no problem. I first realized that something had gone wrong when I was attempting to move a VM's storage to the Cluster Disk. When I right click on the VM and select Move > Virtual Machine Storage, the bottom left area of the "move storage" screen says "Loading..." forever and never displays the cluster storage. This happened once before and I was able to correct the issue by taking the Server Name resource offline and doing More Actions > Repair. However, if I try a repair now I receive the following error messages:

"There was an error repairing the active directory object for 'Cluster Name'. Error Code: 0x800713b8. The cluster request is not valid for this object".

I have verified that the cluster name Active Directory object (CCSDCluster) still exists and each node as well as itself has full permissions to the object. What I am not certain of is whether the object is still in the same Organizational Unit as it was originally. After the failed repair attempt, I am able to bring the Server Name resource back online successfully.

In addition, I am continually receiving cluster event errors indicating the following:

"Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: The handle is invalid. Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server."

Each of the two nodes has multiple NICs configured. One for management, one for guest OSs (Hyper-V virtual switch is configured to use this NIC and not allow management OS access), and two for iSCSI (for redundancy and multi-path). Live migration is set to only use the management NICs. The management NIC on both nodes is configured with valid DNS servers. The CCSDCluster DNS entry has full permissions for both nodes and itself.

Any suggestions on what to try would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Cluster DNS stuatus: The handle is invalid -- server 2012 R2

hi,

I cannot add a node, perform a live migration on cluster.

In the properties of cluster DNS status is : the handle is invalid.

I can ping ipaddress/name of cluster, but there was no host A record created automatically. I had to create it manually.

I changed permission on host record as well, but still no luck.

Can you please help me fix this issue?

Hi,

I am having issues as described in mention below KB link.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2838043

after applying this hotfix I have restart Nodes now I need to perform post installation task as described in article that's is simulate failure on Cluster Network Name and repair it .

I am confuse and need  responses on below queries

  1. What is the impact on services  running on this cluster like VM's , CSV  after pressing Simulate Failure.
  2. Is this activity required any downtime?
  3. Another question is if Cluster Network Name Resource fails how it effects cluster service?

Failover cluster-Online(redirected) access message

$

Hi,

I have a four node cluster with CSV enabled. Out of the three disks in CSV, one of them is showing  the status as "online(redirected access)". The other two disks are showing the correct status "Online". When checking the "critical events" section of the failover cluster i could see the following message:

--

Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume4' ('Cluster Disk 1') is no longer directly accessible from this cluster node. I/O access will be redirected to the storage device over the network through the node that owns the volume. This may result in degraded performance. If redirected access is turned on for this volume, please turn it off. If redirected access is turned off, please troubleshoot this node's connectivity to the storage device and I/O will resume to a healthy state

--

I'm using win 2008 R2. How should i know the exact cause of the  above issue?

I checked the four possible causes as per http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2010/12/16/troubleshooting-redirected-access-on-a-cluster-shared-volume-csv.aspx

Please help me.

Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason: The handle is invalid.

I'm stuck here trying to figure this error out.

2003 domain, 2012 hyper v core 3 nodes.  (I have two of these hyper V groups, hvclust2012 is the problem group, hvclust2008 is okay)

In Failover Cluster Manager I see these errors, "Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason:  The handle is invalid."

I restarted the host node that was listed in having the error then another node starts showing the errors.

I tried to follow this site:  http://blog.subvertallmedia.com/2012/12/06/repairing-a-failover-cluster-in-windows-server-2012-live-migration-fails-dns-cluster-name-errors/

Then this error shows up when doing the repair:  there was an error repairing the active directory object for 'Cluster Name'

I looked at our domain controller and noticed I don't have access to local users and groups.  I can access our other hvclust2008 (both clusters are same version 2012).

I came upon this thread:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/85fc2ad5-b0c0-41f0-900e-df1db8625445/windows-2012-cluster-resource-name-fails-dns-registration-evt-1196?forum=winserverClustering

Now, I'm stuck on adding a managed service account (mas).  I'm not sure if I'm way off track to fix this.  Any advice?  Thanks in advance!

Choosing the correct clustering method

Hi, I currently have a small 3 server environment (win 2012), 1 PDC, and 2 Servers running hyper-v. I have 8 or so hyper v machines on one of the servers and using hyper-v replica to replicate all of them to the other server. I woud like to upgrade this to something that will provide hot migration/failover for the VM's. I was considering having a storage cluster with 2 machines for storage and a VM cluster with 2 machines for migration. My confusion is what to cluster? Do I cluster the physical machines, the VM's or both? Note SQL server is running on one of the VM's.

Hello

I have 2 Hosts , HP Proliant DL580 G7 with Server windows server 2012 Installed and updated with the last windows updates and drivers and hardware firmware. And the Hyper-v Role installed.

With FC SAN storage connected.

Each server have 6 NICs and only 2 NICs in each server are connected and the NIC Team is enabled for with 2 NICs.

I installed the Windows Failover Cluster Feature and the validation process passed with no failed results.

I have one 2012 domain controller running 2008 R2 AD Functional Level.

but when i start creating the cluster it stops with the following errors:

I didn't find any solution or anyone talking about these errors,

Some Guys say that i have to install hotfix 976424 from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2784261

but i cant install it on windows server 2012 its not running.

Your help is appreciated :D

Best Way to Achieve Redundancy for Radio Station Server

$

I'm working on installing a new system for my company's internet radio station. Currently, we are running a Windows program to play back the audio (on the host machine) and then a second application to stream out the audio signal over the WAN.

I am wanting to setup basic hardware and software redundancy for the station. Would two or three computers configured in a cluster provide both hardware and software redundancy, or would I need anything else?

I'm trying to learn the best way to do this, so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Thanks!
