Hello All,

Need you help here. We had an activity of firmware upgrade for SAN Switch, and after upgrading firmware we have found LUNs which we presented on windows server 2008 R2 got disappear. These LUNs we are using as cluster Disk. After server reboot the LUNs was visible.

So want to know why the LUNs got disappear and after reboot again it came back.

Thanks & Regards,

All CSVs disconnecting at 3 AM every Saturday

Good afternoon,

My 5 node Hyper-V cluster is presently connected to 12 CSVs that are accessed from the Dell Compellent via fiber. Every Satruday at 3:00:15AM all CSVs go offline and cause major hell. They can be brought back online without problems but this is getting very annoying. This problem never takes place during the week and once they are brought online, they stay online until the next Saturday at 3:00:15AM.

This environment was upgraded from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2 following best practices. The environment before the upgrade was setup by our director before they left. No documentation nor reasoning behind the setup was provided when asked for it.

In the old environment all of the CSVs were permanently set for redirected access and this problem never occurred. My theory is that if I place all CSVs in redirect mode, then this problem might go away. Would it be reasonable to say that this could be what is causing the problem?

Also, would this problem be caused by a scheduled defrag that takes place at 3:00:15AM and if so where would I check for thos settings?

The event ID that I am receiving is shown below. It appears for each of the 10 CSVs after which new errors show up pointing to problems with the virtual machines because they cannot access their virtual drives that are stored on the CSVs.

Event ID 257: The volume Enterprise_Storage (C:\ClusterStorage\Volume11) was not optimized because an error was encountered: This operation is not supported on this filesystem. (0x89000020)

Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

CSV Mirroring (Active Failover Possible?)

$

This may be a dumb question but I am looking to determine whether or not windows server 2012R2 naitively supports Mirroring of CSV's.  We have a client using Datacore who has two P2000 SAN's.  The Datacore boxes are set up in a cluster like configuration and handle the storage layer all the virtual machine live on. Datacore is configured to mirror one SAN to the other and should allow for resources to function normally in the event one SAN dies.  They would like to move away from Datacore and use native windows server capabilities. The ideal scenario I am trying to achieve is converting the two Datacore boxes into scale out file servers, connecting each SOFS to each SAN and creating two CSV's (One for Each SAN), lastly serving the storage to the hyper-v servers and VMM through a continuously available SMB3 share.  I have done this in a lab network but i can't seem to figure out how to, or if its even possible to, provide the client with the same level of redundancy they are achieving now.  In order to do this I would need to then mirror one CSV (Or SAN) to the other CSV to protect again enclosure failure (Keep in mind i cannot use storage spaces and would need to allow the P2000's to handle the RAID configuration as i have not found a way to remove the layer of abstraction for the physical disks through the P2000's to the scale out file servers). Is this achievable through Failover Cluster manager and if it is, in the event of a CSV failure will the failover to the replication CSV be automatic or manual.  Lastly if this is not achievable through failover cluster manager can it be coupled with another native feature like Hyper-V replica, or Storage replica (though it seems this is only available in server 2016).  Any guidance or recommendations would be great, I will continue digging to determine if i can convert the P2000's is to SAS connected JBOD's (If i am able to do this can storage spaces support the functionality i am looking for?). I would be happy to provide any follow up information as this is a rather complex scenario. Have a lot of clients using storage spaces with Scale out files servers but i haven't yet gone beyond directly connecting a single SAS JBOD.  In this scenario i can't really recommend they ditch their SAN's and buy JBOD's.

DHCP role on Failover Clustring is Offline and can't make any relation to AD DS to fix this

Hi

my laboratory contains 3 servers + 1 Client all are joined. S1(DC) + S2(Failover+DHCP) + S3(Failover+DHCP) + P1(Client)

also made an OU in DC and called it SERV. so, done basic configuration for clustering in S2 and S3 (initiating iSCSI for both S2 and S3, disk Witness, add disks and etc) the quorum method is Node and Disk witness because of two nodes and one 500 MB Disk witness

problem is, when I want to create a DHCP role in cluster management (in S2 which is node owner) it goes offline, and I know S2 and S3 are deeply reliable to DC (S1), so I went to OU properties (SERV) and don't know what to do with Security and COM+ tabs to make this role Online, also can't select DHCP on COM+ tab of SERV OU

please help to fix this problem

thanks

Deleting an offline cluster disk that is still showing in Available Storage and showing dependencies that I do not see

I am trying to remove a disk(lun) from a 2008R2 cluster.  It was the original disk of a File Server cluster and hosted several mount points.  The mount point volumes originally did have cluster dependencies on this disk, but I think I removed all of them.  I then took the disk resource offline and then removed it from the cluster.  So the disk now appears under "Available Storage."  I get this error when I go to delete it.

"This resource has other resources which depend on it.  Deleting it will cause those other resources to go offline.  Are you sure you want to delete Cluster Disk 1?"

I do not see any resources which still show dependencies on this disk, but am I missing it somewhere?

Thanks,

Dave

Cluster inside a Cluster

We are having multiple issues with a Hyper-V Cluster.

New to Hyper-V Clustering, but very familiar with VMware Clusters and High Availability.

A previous IT Company setup our new Client with 3 2012 R2 Hyper-V Hosts. Each Node has the same hardware.

They have an HP MSA 2040 SAN, and 3 Cluster Shared Volumes.

There was a second Cluster setup as a Scale out File Server, and it has its own Cluster Shared Volume for VDI template and User Profile Disks.

VMs on the main Cluster depend on the VDI template and UPDs on the second Cluster.

How do we unmake this mess?

Move to another A.D. Domain - Hyper-V Failover Cluster

I have two Active Directory in our Lab.

1. Domain-A

-         Server 2008 R2 SP1

-         Have two Clustered Hosts as Hyper-V Failover Cluster

-         Uses Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) as storage of virtual machines

-         Has Virtual Machines which is TURNED OFF

2. Domain-B

-         Server 2012 R2

I need to change the domain membership of the two Clustered hosts from Domain-A to Domain-B without losing any of the Virtual Machines. Is there a supported steps for this?

Your help would be greatly appreciated as usual.

Multi-Subnet Failover Cluster & SQL AlwaysOn Availabity

$

Hello

I am working on designing 3 node multi-subnet cluster using Windows Server 2012. I have private WAN link between 2 data centers. I also have DNS & AD server running at both location. 2 nodes are in data center A and 1 node is in data center B. All 3 nodes belong to same domain. During the cluster creation, it is asking me to select the cluster name and assign 2 different IP address for each subnet. After the cluster is created, I see only one IP/name record in DNS. Since I will be using this cluster to create SQL always on availability group, I don't need to worry about having a cluster shared storage.

I am able to successfully create a failover cluster between the 3 nodes but the node at data center B shows down.

I am not seeing any error messages in event viewer or within the failover cluster manager.

SQL03-GNV has IP address of 10.101.3.X and SQL04-GNV has IP address of 10.101.3.X and DR-SQL has IP address of 10.101.4.X

Any input will be greatly appreciated. Cluster validation report shows following message.

Cluster Validation Wizard indicates Software Update mis-matches incorrectly

I have a Windows Server 2012R2 cluster for Hyper-V.  I'm attempting to migrate all VMs to new Hosts, so I'm prepping the new Hosts to join the cluster.  One existing host erroneously reports that its missing a TON of updates, though when I search Installed Updates on that host, they're all installed already.  This is throwing off the new Hosts I'm validating for cluster membership, showing that all those same updates are also missing on the new Hosts as well.  I've run get-hotfix on all the new Hosts, as well as 2 of the exisitng, and manually compared, only to find that even the existing cluster nodes are out of sync on installed updates, even though Cluster Validation Wizard reports them as matching.  I'm guessing that my Cluster Validation Wizard is not gathering correct information on all Hosts, leading me to this issue.

So, how do I fix this?  What am I missing?  I"m logged in as a Domain Admin when running the validation.  I've already added the cluster network name to each node in AD > Security tab with full permissions.  How does the Cluster Validation Wizard obtain the information on updates and compare them?  Is there a stand-alone tool I can use to substitute this portion of the wizard?

Quorum are failed to bring online after failover to other node

Dear All,

we have 2 node with SAN storage to form a cluster, after node A fail, failover cluster are tried to failover to node B, but the quorum drive are failed to bring online and the cluster also fail to online due to nodeanddiskmajority we have set.

after we checked the cluster log, it showed below error.

[RES] Physical Disk <Cluster Disk 4>: PR reserve failed, status 170
[RES] Physical Disk <Cluster Disk 4>: HardDiskpPRArbitrate: Error exit, unregistering key...
[RES] Physical Disk <Cluster Disk 4>: ResHardDiskArbitrateInternal: PR Arbitration for disk Error: 170.
Physical Disk <Cluster Disk 4>: ResHardDiskArbitrate: Internal arbitration returned status 170.

we need to force start the cluster net start clussvc /fq and Clear-ClusterDiskReservation -Disk 1 to bring the failover cluster online.

1) why the quorum drive has been reserved ?

2) how we can prevent this happen so the failover cluster will start without problem?

Thanks.

Benny

File share witness on a NAS -- permission problem

$

My research has not yet yielded any results.  I'm trying to configure a file share witness on a Windows 2012 failover cluster.  The file share is on a NAS.  My login has full control on the file share.  When I try to configure the witness using the Configure Cluster Quorum Wizard, I get an error message:

"You do not have sufficient privilege to get the information for the file share '[share]'."

The cluster service on all nodes as running as local system account.  We tried giving the machine accounts full control on the file share, and that didn't work.

I would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks.

Configure Generic Application

Hey,

I am using Windows Server 2012 R2 set in Cluster with access to a SAN.

I need to set a general application as a clustered resource.

I'm currently facing some difficulties, including the fact that whenever I start the application (already configured as a generic application) it doesn't show the GUI of app.

At this point whenever I try to start the same application is executed (is running in Task Manager)

What can i do to overcomer this ?

King regards

NLB statistics?

$

Windows Server 2008 R2.

Can anyone tell me if there is any way to see statistics of how an NLB cluster has distributed client requests?  How many in the past 24 hours?  What kind of distribution?  The way we have it configured it should of course be a 50-50 distribution, but if there is a way to display actual stats, that would be quite good.

Network Configuration???

We have a three node active / active / passive Windows 2012 cluster.

One node contains a single instance (Role) of SQL Server, a second node contains two instances (Roles) of SQL Server.  One of the instances is not being used yet.

I took the unused role off-line and in the process, the primary network took all three of the public IP addresses off-line.

If we take one role off-line, why would the other IP addresses also go off-line??

It apparently is a configuration issue but I cannot find any type of documentation in this.

Multi site failover cluster, Single host server at 2 separate offices

I'm looking at a scenario where we have 2 dell servers, one at our main office, and another at a remote office. Each of these servers has support for 24 virtual processors, 64GB RAM, and a RAID 1TB RAID array. We are currently running SQL server at the main office but I'd like to set this up into a failover cluster with 2 virtual Windows servers at each location (and likely a 5th node at another separate location)

Without the use of hardware storage that is replicated, what would be the recommended way of replicated storage for this environment?

I am configuring a new hyper v cluster and we have opted to use ISCSI storage.

Do I need to create a CSV network as well as a ISCSI Storage network within my hosts ?

Is the CSV effectively the Heartbeat\Cluster communication for my 9 nodes ?

VMs causes physical switch overload

$

After installing Failover Cluster Manager on a Server 2012R2, when a VM is started using a virtual switch connection to a Cisco 3750, the physical switch gets overwhelmed with high CPU usage and won't stop until the switch is power cycled. When I did the same thing in Hyper-V before I enabled the FCM feature everything worked okay. But high availability is the goal. What is going on with the interaction of FCM and the physical infrastructure.
