how to make that batch file running in cluster.

Task Scheduler on Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster

We were on Windows Server 2003, and had some scheduled tasks to take care of application maintenance. We decided to move to new servers that run on Windows Server 2008 R2. We have Microsoft failover clustering implemented and have two nodes on the cluster.

The scheduled tasks on Server 2003 were maintained in a shared drive so that when the system fails over, the other node could also be aware of the Tasks location. For this we had changed the default location (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SchedulingAgent\TasksFolder)to point to the new path and it worked.

But in server 2008 R2, the default location of the tasks (as per theHKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SchedulingAgent\TasksFolder)is still “%SystemRoot%\Tasks“, but I could not see any tasks that I had created in the above path. I then found that the tasks get created in “%SystemRoot%\System32\Tasks” folder instead.

Does that mean the above registry key is not being used to store the tasks? Is there any other place in the registry that I need to look at?

I realize that the Task Scheduler is not cluster-aware in Windows Server 2008 R2, though I read some posts suggesting Windows Server 2012 has this new feature, but that wouldn’t be of much help as we are not looking to move to Server 2012.

I also read that the registry keyHKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCachecontains several sub-keys that alsohave to get replicated in order for it to show up on the other node. I don't know if replicating the entire TaskCache key (and all sub-keys) would have any adverse effects, but at the minimum it appears thatTaskCache\Tasks and TaskCache\Treemust be replicated.

Has anyone successfully created scheduled tasks on a Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster? How can this be achieved?

Pls help.

Automating Cluster Quorum Reconfiguration in cases other than network split?

Hi,

1. Are quorum configurations described here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731739.aspx the same in Windows Server 2012?
If not, would you please refer me to an adequate document?

2. In a multi-site scenario where I have 60 nodes at my primary site and 40 nodes at my secondary site, what happens if my primary site sustains a disaster in which all 60 nodes become unusable? Do I still have cluster failure even though I have more than enough resources to continue operation? Is there a way for my secondary site to determine if the cluster is dead (not only to my secondary site but unreachable to the clients) and do an automatic cluster reconfiguration so that now my 40-node site becomes a new cluster and as such, has quorum?

Thanks!

Moving quorum along with application group

I am trying to make TIBCO EMS work on a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 2 node cluster. I am facing an issue when the application is moved from one node to another. If I am moving the application from Node1 (which owns the witness disk) to Node2, the application group comes online just fine, but when I try to reach the application through the cluster host or IP address, it fails to reach the application. If I do a "cluster group "Cluster Group" /move", and then try to connect to the application via the host/ip, it connects fine. So I think that the cluster ip is only forwarding the request to the host that has quorum. How can I change the quorum to be moved along with the application as well?

Windows Server 2012 Hyper-v Cluster (2 Nodes) - Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' Failed registration

Hi

We've started receiving the following error after a month or so of clustering bliss...

"Cluster network name resource 'Cluster Name' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason:
DNS bad key"(Event ID 1196).

....on one of the node in our two node 2012 Hyper-v cluster. The error is being produced on the node with Quorum and as such the node with the Cluster IP address. Also we're receiving a "The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server NODE-2$. The target name used was <PROTOCOL>/CLUSTER-NAME.contoso.local "(Event ID 4).

This is currently stopping us from Live migrating servers from the Quorum node to the other. From what I can tell its a kerberos authentication failure with the SPN CLUSTER-NAME and the Machine Account of NODE-2.

Configuration

2 x Windows Server 2012 Std Hyper-v Cluster

Shared storage

2 x LAG Teamed NIC on both server

If you require anymore info please let me know.

2 VMs will not move or migrate to other node

I have 2 nodes in my cluster.  Both are identical and running Windows 2008 R2.  Last week sometime I had all of my VMs running on node1.   The next day I came in and they were all on node2 except for 2 VMs.  They were still on node1.  I thought I'd move them over to node2 and reboot node1.  However they will not move or live migrate to node2.  I get a failed state.  They are running fine on node1.   I'm not sure what happen that night.  Anyway.  I've powered off everything, Nodes, VMs, switches, SAN, but still having issues.   The other VM can migrate or move to node1 and back without issues.

Enabling Client for Microsoft Networks / File & Printer Sharing on Heartbeat NIC on Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster

Hi,

I have a Fail-over Cluster setup on Server 2008 R2 SP1 running 4 instances of SQL. Looking around the web I see lots of contradictory information regarding the use of "Cluster-Heartbeat" adapters and their properties.

My question is simple:

Should I or should I not enable "Client for Microsoft Networks / File & Printer Sharing" on the Heartbeat NIC on the Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster that runs only SQL Server 2008 R2 instances?

Thanks,

Node Computers are Freezing " Microsoft logo " on booting time

Hi,

I'm experiencing boot / freezing problem with  Cluster nodes running Windows 2008 Server

When I boot, after the " Microsoft logo "  loading bar appears and before the Windows 2008 logo appears, the system stops to respond (I get a black screen, no mouse, no cursor, no HDD

activity, nothing).  even not able to login to  safe mode  its hanging in safe mode also on some where "/drivers **** )

I try to recover , bootfix , MBRFix , RebuildBCD , chkdsk /r /f  etc , but not solved  . Then I try to install 2008 OS freshly then its working fine  . then I restored my backup ( 3 month old backup ) then it failed to boot again .

Then I try to reboot other nodes then found all nodes have same issue , Hanging in same place in safe mode  .

.

Do you have any idea ?

Thanks

We had a connection failure, as a result one of my nodes shows down in my Windows 2008 Cluster Shared Volume server.

The problem has been resolved, but the node still shows down.

I need to evict the node and re-add it back in.

Can I do that without affecting my current node that is up and running with all my vm's?

Hi forum,

I want to configure two node windows cluster for file share. First i created a two node cluster and tested everything is worked fine.

Then to configure file server.  I attached a 50 GB Lun and added it as cluster storage. Then from cluster manager I tried to create a file server .The validation report is successful and file server also gets created. But was not able to come online. It is showing failed. I found multiple error events like1205 ,1269, 1194. I dont have any clue. Pls help.

Hi Experts,

We've got a fail-over clustering setup, the problem is that when we do offline to the application immediately for the second time the cluster resource service does not offline successfully. We've tried checking the event viewer and application log for traces but empty.

Thanks,

Adding drives to my RAID10 Logs partition

$

Hi,

I have a Windows 2012 Failover Cluster with 2 nodes and 2 SQL 2012 Always-on Availability Groups.  Both nodes are a physical machine and each node is the primary for an AG.  On one of the nodes I need to add drive space to the Logs partition which is in RAID10.  Since it is in RAID10 I cannot simply add the drives to the Logs partition (not supported by the PERC H810 RAID Controller) but rather I have to backup the logs onto another drive then recreate the Logs partition with the new drives added.

My plan is to failover the AG that is primary from the node that the work needs to be performed on so that the other node then is the primary for both AGs.  At this point I'm not sure about the correct steps that need to be taken to move the log files onto a different drive (That the other node wont be aware of) and recreate the partition with the new drives added.  Any thoughts?

Migrate quorum : SAN volumes server 2008

Migrate quorum : When we are working on an active active cluster in server 2008 , the SAN guys are doing a remotecopy at backend to migrate data.

I want to know if quorum drive gets configured automatically in this effort with allocating same LUN id and Drive letter on the new volume or do we have to work on this separately?

Also, for the active active node , what can be done that the resources do not failover to other node while we restart one node ? This will cause distruption of services to the instances running on one node at a time, currently failover to other node for all services leads to issues with other nodes ( memory and performance issues)

How to setup Failover Cluster with virtual machines in Hyper-V?

$

I'm trying to setup a failover cluster between two VMs, which were configured as roles in Failover Cluster Manager on top of an existing physical cluster in Windows Server 2012.

I can only get the cluster to be created if the VMs are owned by the same physical node, and if one of them gets moved to a different node, I am only capable of starting up one of the VMs, and the virtual cluster appears not to function anymore.

My eventual goal is to setup SQL 2012 failover clustering on the virtual machines; if there's a way for me to setup high availability for these virtual machines without iSCSI and without windows server failover clustering, I'd LOVE to know what it is.

Thanks!

Strange errors regarding RPC and WMI after migrating Hyper-V from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 cluster...

Hi all;

Suppose I have created a two-node Hyper-V cluster with a fibre channel shared storage in Windows Server 2012. Everything work fine except some issues. One of the is that when I want to configure the cluster to add a VM as its cluster resource, the following error message appears:

An error occurred while determining the state of this clustered role in the cluster. The remote procedure call failed with error 800706BE.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost

Hi,

We encountered this problem (on 25 April 2013) and need to find out the root cause. We do have the cluster.log file but we are not that good to interpret it. Please assist.

Operating system: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)

Error message:

The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk.
Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

Cluster Shared Volume

We are planning to implement a new Hyper v 2008 r2 cluster.

We have limited storage.

Once we have the first new node of the cluster built can we detach CSV1 from the old cluster and attach it to the new node eliminating the need to attach a new CSV to the new node. We only have 1 TB of tier one storage left until a new tray of disks is added.

So can we detach a CSV from one cluster and attach it to another cluster?
