Hello,
We are looking to set up a live 2012 R2 cluster with 2 file server roles running on it, one SOFS and one normal FS.
The SOFS will be used to host user profile disks for our RDSH environment, and the normal file server will be for shared user data/files.
I am of course, needing to investigate our backup solution. Having a read here it states I have to setup the backup on both nodes in the cluster. This is fine, but I have some queries;
- If role 1 is running on node 1, and role 2 is running on node 2, when setting up the backup on node 1, will it be aware and able to add role 2's storage to the backup?
- If role 1 is running on node 1, and role 2 is running on node 2, node 1 backup only backup roles currently running on node 1, and similarly, will node 2 only backup roles running on node 2?
- In extension to the above, if role 2 fails over to node 1, will node 1 backup then include role 2's storage in the backup?
I am trying to determine if we need to backup both nodes all the time regardless of roles running on that node, if backups will include ALL roles if a failover occurs and roles are now running on different nodes.
What is the restore procedure then going to be in this scenario?
Many thanks
Eds
UPDATE: An additional question, is it currently possible to backup a file server cluster directly to Azure?
